Emory Winship Cancer Institute (Atlanta). An affiliate of Emory Healthcare, the Emory Winship Cancer Institute is Georgia's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. The NCI's National Clinical Trials Network selected Winship as one of 30 inaugural U.S. cancer centers to be a lead academic participating site for clinical trials. Around 15,000 patients receive treatment at the institute each year and, in 2016, investigators enrolled 700-plus patients in more than 250 therapeutic clinical trials. Winship's 442 faculty members received $83.9 million in research funding in 2016, with $38.6 million from the NCI.
