IU Health Academic Center (Indianapolis). IU Health Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in Indiana providing patient care. It was established in 1992 and earned its NCI designation in 1999. U.S. News & World Report named the hospital as "high performing" nationally for cancer care in its 2016-17 rankings, and IU Health is also a Blue Distinction Center for Complex & Rare Cancers.
