Allegheny General Hospital (Pittsburgh). Allegheny General Hospital opened in 1885 and has honed excellence in several specialties, including oncology, over its history. The hospital is part of Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute, which is comprised of seven hospitals and more than 50 clinics. It is also a member of the recently formed Highmark Cancer Collaborative, which was established in March as a collaboration between the payer Highmark, the AHN Cancer Institute and Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center in Baltimore to create and disseminate best practices in cancer care.
