University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. Ranked among the top 25 hospitals in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report for 2016-17, the University of Alabama Hospital's department of neurosurgery includes 13 full-time neurosurgeons who perform more than 4,000 procedures annually. The academic medical center has a Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and features a Level IV epilepsy center, a 36-bed neurointensive care unit, a 20-bed stroke unit and a 10-bed epilepsy monitoring unit. In its most recent rating, CareChex designated UAB as a 2017 top hospital nationally for neurological surgery (No. 5) and neurological care (No. 45).
