The 520-bed teaching hospital heralds a 26-bed neurointensive care unit, the only neuro ICU in the world to house a 3 Tesla MRI scanner and a CT-PET instrument, allowing physicians to observe traumatic brain injury and cerebral hemorrhage. U.S. News & World Report included UCLA Medical Center in its 2016-17 best hospitals for neurology and neurosurgery in the No. 8 spot. CareChex recently ranked the academic medical center No. 1 in California for stroke and neurological care. Beginning in 2015, UCLA Medical Center garnered three Healthgrades awards over three consecutive years: America's 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care Award, the Cranial Neurosurgery Excellence Award and the Neurosciences Excellence Award.
