Spectrum Health Medical Center–Butterworth Hospital (Grand Rapids, Mich.). With a history dating back to 1873, Butterworth Hospital is one of four facilities that make up Spectrum Health Medical Center, a system with 23,000 employees and 1,300 employed physicians.
Clinicians at the Family Birthplace at Butterworth Hospital deliver more than 7,000 babies each year. The Magnet-designated hospital is home to a Level I trauma center and a regional burn center. The Wege Foundation Chest Pain Center, a collaboration between the Butterworth Hospital emergency department and the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center, is the only nationally accredited chest pain center in Grand Rapids.
U.S. News & World Report combines all of Spectrum's hospitals in Grand Rapids, including Butterworth, for its rankings. In 2015-16, the publication ranked Spectrum as the No. 3 hospital in Michigan and nationally ranked one of its adult specialties (No. 27 for pulmonology) and three of its pediatric specialties. Butterworth Hospital was listed among Healthgrades' 50 Best Hospitals for 2015. In 2016, the 476-bed hospital earned a spot on Truven Health Analytics' list of 100 Top Hospitals in the U.S.
