Houston Methodist Hospital, the flagship hospital of the Houston Methodist system, has served patients from the Houston community and around the world for more than 90 years. What began as a 30-bed hospital has evolved into one of the nation's largest private nonprofit hospitals, an academic teaching hospital and a center for leading medical research.
The hospital employs more than 6,100 people, houses 824 operating beds and has nearly 400,000 emergency room, outpatient visits and admissions each year. Currently, Houston Methodist Hospital sponsors 239 medical residents in 39 programs. It has numerous academic affiliates, including Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, among others.
Houston Methodist Hospital was ranked as the No. 1 hospital in Texas by U.S. News & World Report in its 2015-16 rankings. It is nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties and named as high performing for three adult procedures and conditions, according to U.S. News. The hospital is Magnet-designated, and in 2016, it was named among Truven Health Analytics' 100 Top Hospitals. In 2015 and 2016, Houston Methodist Hospital was ranked among the 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades.
