Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center | 100 Great Hospitals in America 2015

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (Winston-Salem, N.C.). In 1941, the Wake Forest School of Medicine joined with North Carolina Baptist Hospital to create what today is known as Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. This 885-bed teaching hospital includes the region's only Level I trauma center and clinical expertise in more than 100 specialties.

U.S. News & World Report ranked Wake Forest Baptist as one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for four specialties: cancer care, nephrology, pulmonology and ear, nose and throat care. The hospital's nursing staff, which totals more than 3,000 professionals, earned Magnet designation for excellence. Eighty percent of patients will recommend care at Wake Forest Baptist, which is more than the 71 percent national average.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center was one of three North Carolina hospitals to partner and create a new shared services company, Socius Health Solutions, to combine their talents while retaining local independence. By working with its affiliates, Vidant Health and WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Wake Forest Baptist hopes to improve care quality and affordability across the state with the new value-based business model.
