St. Luke's Hospital (Cedar Rapids, Iowa). UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital is a nationally ranked 532-bed facility that employs more than 3,500 people. Each year, St. Luke's admits nearly 18,000 patients and sees roughly 53,000 emergency department visits, 2,500 births and 25,000 surgeries.
In 2015, St. Luke's was designated by Truven Health Analytics as one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals for the fifth time and one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the country for the third year in a row and the sixth time overall. St. Luke's is the only hospital in Eastern Iowa that has earned Truven's 100 Top distinction six times. St. Luke's was also ranked among Healthgrades' list of America's 50 Best hospitals for the third year in a row and ranked No. 3 in the state by U.S. News & World Report.
Founded in 1884, St. Luke's was Cedar Rapids' very first hospital. Today, it serves a five-county area surrounding Cedar Rapids, offering a wide range of patient care services including behavioral health, cardiac care, general surgery, neonatology, obstetrics, pediatrics, rehabilitation, senior services and trauma care. The hospital is very involved in the community, with roughly 104,000 hours of collective volunteering hours each year. St. Luke's also provided nearly $54 million of charity care in 2013 alone.
