NorthShore University HealthSystem Evanston (Ill.) Hospital. Evanston Hospital opened in 1891 and is part of Evanston-based NorthShore University HealthSystem. The hospital, licensed for 354 beds, provides specialized cancer services at the Kellogg Cancer Center and comprehensive heart care at the Cardiovascular Care Center.
Evanston Hospital is nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report in gastroenterology and GI surgery. It ranked No. 9 in Illinois and No. 9 in the Chicago metro area for 2014-15. In 2014, the palliative care program at Evanston Hospital earned recertification from the Joint Commission. This Gold Seal of Approval is "recognition of the program's commitment to providing the best care to patients and their families."
Evanston Hospital offers an array of high-quality services, including labor and delivery. In fact, Evanston Hospital's Infant Special Care Unit and Women's Hospital serve as the regional center for high-risk obstetrics. It is also certified by the Joint Commission in palliative care and as a Primary Stroke Center.
Another unique program housed at Evanston Hospital is the NorthShore Center of Simulation and Innovation, which gives nurses, physicians, firefighters, paramedics and police officers a place to train for clinical care, trauma and emergency preparedness in a controlled space.
