About a month after the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center announced it would outsource its transcription services, resulting in layoffs, affected medical transcriptionists, along with union members and community activists held a rally outside UPMC's headquarters, according to a New Pittsburgh Courier report.
Though all of the medical transcriptionists affected by the outsourcing were offered positions at Nuance, the new company, those that took the new positions say their pay has been cut almost in half, according to the report.
According to the New Pittsburgh Courier, the transcriptionists are asking for severance pay and no contesting of unemployment claims from UPMC, health insurance from Nuance and an apology from UMPC CEO Jeffrey Romoff.
