Members of the United Nurses and Allied Professionals union at Westerly (R.I.) Hospital have approved a new three-year contract, according to a report from The Day.
The new contract restores some benefits the union conceded when the hospital was placed into receivership in December 2011. "Our members made significant concessions to keep this hospital open and meeting the needs of the community we are all proud to be a part of," Jackie Desmond, president of UNAP Local 5075, told The Day.
New London, Conn.-based Lawrence + Memorial Hospital acquired Westerly Hospital in June 2013, and the UNAP's current contract was negotiated before the purchase, according to the report.
Two local chapters of UNAP, Local 5075 and Local 5104, represent about 420 nurses and allied professionals and service and maintenance workers at the hospital.
