The National Labor Relations Board has issued a formal complaint against Greenfield, Mass.-based Baystate Franklin Medical Center based on two charges from the Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United.
The MNA/NNU says Baystate Franklin's management has tried to illegally restrict union activity — according to hospital nurses, they were restricted from discussing union matters in any area of the hospital during a one-day strike in October — and has refused to provide information regarding proposals made during negotiations with the Massachusetts Nurses Association.
"We have had [unfair labor practice hearings] in the past…and we have more times than not come out on top. We are very confident in our position on these," Chuck Gijanto, Baystate Franklin's president, told The Recorder.
The hospital and union have been in contract negotiations for 18 months, according to the news release. MNA/NNU has 209 members at Baystate Franklin.
The NLRB scheduled a hearing on the complaint for Oct. 2.
