Telehealth utilization falls nationally

Telehealth utilization decreased across all regions in April, decreasing nationally by 5.4 percent month over month, according to a July 6 news release from Fair Health.

Here are three things to know about the current state of telehealth usage, according to data from Fair Health's Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker

The national telehealth services utilization rate decreased by 5.4 percent. Telehealth accounted for 5.6 percent of all medical claim lines in March and decreased to 5.3 percent in April.

The utilization decrease was observed in all four regions. The South experienced the highest decrease at 6.8 percent, followed by the West with 6.4 percent, the Northeast with 6.3 percent and the Midwest with 4.7 percent.

The data represents the privately insured population and those covered by Medicare Advantage plans. The data does not account for individuals covered by Medicare fee-for-service and Medicaid plans.
