Sioux Falls, S.D.-based MedVantx Pharmacy Services and Pittsburgh-based UPMC Health Plan continue to expand their ongoing partnership to provide free, full-course samples to increase medication adherence.
UPMC Health Plan has sponsored MedVantx and its MedStart Connect program since 2003. The aim of the program is to improve medication adherence by providing patients with full samples of generic and brand name medication at the point of care rather than relying on patients to fill their prescriptions after visiting their provider.
UPMC Health Plan and MedVantx expanded their partnership in 2014 to include a series of new tools to better engage and communicate with patients belonging to the MedStart Connect program. Patients received customized education materials designed to increase communication and dialogue with UPMC providers.
"MedVantx is dedicated to eliminating gaps in primary medication non-adherence by ensuring patients get the proper medication in hand at the point-of-care and remain on that therapy over time through an integrated, convenient and cost-effective program," said Susan Hogue, vice president of managed care networks and clinical services at MedVantx. "We hope to be part of the solution for reducing the $290 billion in U.S. healthcare costs attributable to medication non-adherence."
