Pandemic-related supply shortages have boosted demand for used medical equipment in Texas, Tanya Powell, the president of a Beaumont, Texas-based supply company, told 12 News, a dual ABC/NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Beaumont.
Ms. Powell's company, Medical Equipment Solutions, purchases used medical equipment that hospitals and surgical centers no longer need, including MRI scanners, anesthesia machines and stretchers.
Nationwide shortages have driven up costs and demand for the used equipment, as hospitals aren't able to get new equipment.
"We have had a big problem getting the equipment that we've sold. The large equipment shipped out and delivered in a timely manner, they just, they're not able to pick it up. They call and say they don't have the drivers. They're losing a lot of freight," Ms. Powell told 12 News.
Used ventilators and defibrillators have been in particularly high demand during the pandmeic, Ms. Powell said.
"We have sold every ventilator that we've had, even old ventilators, old-style ventilators. They are not here more than a day. We sell them immediately," Ms. Powell told 12 News.
