Premier, Inc. has been granted a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its Supply Mix Index, a methodology that keeps track of hospital supply expenses.
The Supply Mix Index lets users calculate supply expense per patient procedure. This newly patented methodology from Charlotte, N.C.,-based Premier, Inc. can identify the percentage of supply costs in a clinical procedure. Hospitals can then compare their cost percentages to other hospitals nationwide and see how to improve resource utilization and supply efficiency while reducing spending waste, according to the company.
