Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina's $28 million high-tech supply warehouse and sterilization center is nearing completion, according to The Post and Courier.
The facility will be used to store and keep track of the system's medical supplies. MUSC will also use it to sterilize equipment.
The warehouse, which will serve MUSC's downtown Charleston campus and other locations throughout the region, is expected to be ready for occupancy in February.
The health system and warehouse builder and developer, SensusOne, predict the facility will pay for itself in two years by saving about $14 million in operating costs annually.
Tom Crawford, MUSC's interim COO, said that other systems are already looking to copy the model to reduce their own operating costs.
