McKesson plans to open a 174,000-square-foot distribution facility in Holt, Mich., this fall, the Lansing State Journal reported.
The facility will replace a McKesson distribution center in Livonia, Mich. Darren Johnston, director of operations for McKesson, told the Journal that the Lansing area is "more centrally located for our customers."
The facility will distribute medications to most of Michigan. McKesson officials told the Journal it will be a heavily automated facility, presenting a shift in how it manages its supply lines.
The company plans to hire about 80 people at the facility over three years.
McKesson distributes roughly a third of all prescription drugs in the U.S., the Journal reported.
