Lake Forest, Ill.-based Hospira has voluntarily recalled one lot of 0.25% Marcaine, 10 ml, Single-dose Vial, Preservative Free, due to discolored solution and visible particles embedded in the glass.
If solution with particulates is administered, the particulates could pass through the catheter and lead to local inflammation, mechanical disruption of tissue or an immune response to the particulate. In some cases, it may cause a delay in therapy.
Hospira has not received any adverse events reports associated with this issue.
