Amazon plans to make one-day shipping the new standard for Prime members, the e-commerce giant announced in its first-quarter earnings call April 25, according to CNBC.
To shorten the standard two-day shipping to one-day, Amazon will spend about $800 million in the second quarter to improve warehouse and delivery infrastructure.
The e-commerce giant already offers one-day and two-hour shipping to Prime members for some products for an additional cost. The change would expand the number of products eligible for one-day shipping and the locations offering it. And the shorter shipping time would be free for Prime members.
Amazon didn't reveal a timetable for the rollout of its free, one-day shipping but said it would use "all of the available levers," including UPS and Amazon third-party delivery networks.
