Dozens of federal investigators last month raided an office building in Largo, Fla., which was filled with medical device supply companies, according to local NBC affiliate WPTV.
FBI and HHS agents confiscated boxes and computers from approximately a dozen medical supply companies. They seized millions of dollars and froze companies' assets while executing the search and seizure warrants.
Federal investigators had warrants to raid 20 different medical device companies in the Tampa Bay, Fla., area. The raids were part of a national investigation into Medicare fraud. These companies were allegedly involved in a scheme with telemarketing companies to defraud taxpayers.
Since the raid, many of the companies have closed their doors. However, medical supply companies continue to pop up in Florida, WPTV reports.
