The director of the FDA's medical supply division praised the recently passed spending bill for its "total product life-cycle approach" and cybersecurity measure allowances, Politico reported Jan. 3.
Suzanne Schwartz, MD, director of the office of strategic partnerships and technology innovation of the FDA's center for devices and radiological health, said "she's over the moon" about the FDA's new powers. As part of the bill, the agency can decide on cybersecurity requirements before devicemakers deploy internet-connected devices to the market, and it can enforce stricter security follow-up rules for approved products, according to Politico.
