Boston Scientific acquires Cryterion Medical for $202M

Medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific acquired Cryterion Medical, a company developing a single-shot cryoablation platform to treat atrial fibrillation, for $202 million in cash July 5.

Under the transaction, Boston Scientific will acquire the remaining 65 percent stake in Cryterion that it didn't already own.

The deal will give Boston Scientific access to both cryothermal and radiofrequency single-shot balloon-based ablation therapies.

Although Cryterion's technology hasn't been approved for use in any country, initial clinical trials have shown promise, according to Keegan Harper, president and CEO of Cryterion Medical.
