1 in 10 hospitals struggle with cutting supply chain costs, survey finds

Although 10 percent of hospital and health system leaders said reducing supply chain costs was the greatest cost transformation difficulty for their organization, it is a winnable struggle, according to a new Kaufman Hall and Healthcare Financial Management Association survey.

Kaufman Hall surveyed hospitals and health systems on their performance and cost transformation efforts in September. The survey included responses from 169 directors, managers and executives.

Twelve percent of respondents said that supply chain costs, including pharmaceuticals, are putting the most pressure on their efforts to control expenses.

But in spite of the supply chain challenges, 32 percent of respondents said they have seen the greatest cost transformation success in the supply chain.
