Novant lays off 50, including executives

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health has laid off about 50 workers, including multiple C-level executives, the health system confirmed to Becker's March 29.

The layoffs affected non-patient-facing workers. Among them were Jesse Cureton, the health system's executive vice president and chief consumer officer since 2013; Angela Yochem, its executive vice president and chief transformation and digital officer since 2020; and Paula Dean Kranz, vice president of innovation enablement and executive director of the Novant Health Innovation Labs.

"In a continued effort to prioritize our patients and support the team members who care for them, we made the difficult decision to scale back some departments across the organization, including some members of our executive team," a spokesperson for the health system said.

Novant Health recently issued raises to both executives and minimum-wage workers in a combined investment of more than $100 million. The health system had total revenues of approximately $7.6 billion in 2022, and on March 16, Fitch Ratings affirmed its "AA-" rating.
