Everyone wants to innovate. But how many hospitals are actually doing it?
In an article for Harvard Business Review, Sydney Finkelstein, PhD, a professor at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and faculty director of the school's executive program, outlines a simple exercise to make innovation happen. The strategy calls for teams to brainstorm on three topics:
- Existing operational practices.
- Challenges or threats to the status quo.
- Actions to address impending disruptions.
Dr. Finkelstein suggests devoting 15 minutes to the exercise once per week at team meetings and tracking progress each week in a "change notebook." Read more on the strategy here.
