University of Chicago Medicine Names New Hospital Center for Care and Discovery

The University of Chicago Medicine announced the name of its new $700 million hospital is the Center for Care and Discovery.

University of Chicago Medicine named its new hospital the Center for Care and Discovery.Health system leaders chose this name to reflect the facility's commitment to innovative medical research and patient-centered care, according to the release.

"It's not just a new hospital," said University of Chicago Medical Center President Sharon O'Keefe in the release. "We chose 'Center for Care and Discovery' because it will transform how we care for all patients, using leading-edge technology and innovative research to deliver advanced clinical treatments in a setting that offers a superior healing environment."

The 1.2 million-square-foot hospital is located near the Gordon Center for Integrative Science and the Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery to facilitate collaboration between researchers and clinicians. The facility will include 240 private inpatient rooms and 28 operating rooms, among other features, and will open in early February 2013.
