Eighty-seven percent of hospital leaders report sustainability is a factor in their decision-making surrounding hospital operations, according to a recent survey conducted by Practice Greenhealth and Johnson & Johnson.
The hospital leaders polled were among those attending CleanMed 2013, a conference focused on sustainability in healthcare held last week in Boston.
Twenty percent of respondents indicated their organization invested more than $1 million in sustainability initiatives in 2012, and 90 percent of those surveyed indicated their hospital increased investment in sustainability in 2012 versus the previous year.
Although the survey respondents were likely to be representing hospitals already interested in sustainability due to their conference attendance, the survey suggests the increasing importance of sustainability in hospital decision-making.
