Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health is partnering with a health system in China to develop a pediatric clinic.
Sanford launched its World Clinics initiative in 2007 to develop a series of pediatric clinics in the U.S. and around the world in areas lacking sufficient primary care services. It has since expanded the scope of the initiative to provide care for entire families.
For this clinic, Sanford is working with YMCI Calmette Medical Investment & Management Company, a state-owned company of China's Yunnan province. The two will develop a pediatric clinic in Yunnan's capital and largest city, Kunming, which is currently experiencing substantial population growth.
Under the agreement, YMCI Calmette will own the pediatric clinic, and Sanford World Clinic will manage the daily operations and provision of medical services. The children's clinic will also have connection to Sanford's clinical, research and administrative resources in South Dakota.
Sanford World Clinics has opened facilities in Oklahoma, California and Oregon, along with four clinics in Ghana, Africa. Sanford is pursuing projects in Israel and Mexico, as well.
