Jersey City, N.J.-based LibertyHealth System plans to reopen Greenville Hospital in Jersey City after closing the facility due to financial losses in 2008, according to a Jersey Journal report.
The health system closed the acute-care hospital due to losses of $3 million a year, according to the report. Following its closure, from 2009 to 2011 the building served as the headquarters for Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center's Emergency Medical Service.
Now, LibertyHealth System plans to renovate the facility and reopen it as an outpatient medical center by the end of next year.
Community Healthcare Associates, a healthcare consulting and real estate development firm based in Bloomfield, N.J., will purchase and renovate the former hospital. LibertyHealth will then lease the building from CHA and open it as an urgent care center with several specialty services.
LibertyHealth System president and CEO Joseph Scott said the outpatient facility will enable the system to accommodate a growing demand for outpatient services, according to the report.
The renovation is expected to be completed in roughly 12 to 18 months.
