Cleveland Clinic Innovations, the system's commercial arm, and Washington, D.C.-based MedStar Health have inked a licensing deal with a Maryland-based technology company for a medical device to help patients breathe, according to a Crain's Cleveland Business report.
The licensing deal with Beltsville, Md.-based InnoVital Systems is the first to come from the Cleveland Clinic-led Healthcare Innovation Alliance, which includes healthcare providers, universities and corporate partners nationwide. The HIA has said the deal is an important milestone in bringing innovative ideas to the marketplace.
The device, called InVent Diaphragm Assist Device, was invented by William Krimsky, MD, director of the Center for Interventional Pulmonology at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore.
