Focusing on improving both healthcare cost and quality together instead of in isolation can help leaders improve value, according to a report by the Forum on Healthcare Innovation.
The Forum on Healthcare Innovation, created by Harvard Business School and Harvard Medical School, held a conference as its inaugural event in November 2012. The forum summarized five main themes from the conference in a report, "5 Imperatives: Addressing Healthcare's Innovation Challenge:"
1. Make value the central objective.
2. Promote novel approaches to process improvement.
3. Make consumerism really work.
4. Decentralize approaches to problem solving.
5. Integrate new approaches into established organizations.
