Recent reviews conducted by the Office of Inspector General revealed Medicare overpayments to two California hospitals: Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage and Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria.
According to the review, Eisenhower did not bill Medicare in accordance with federal requirements for selected drug injections. As a result, the hospital received $86,846 in Medicare overpayments. The hospital has attributed the improper payments to its billing system and human error. Eisenhower has agreed to refund the identified overpayments.
Marian also failed to bill Medicare for selected drug injections in accordance with federal requirements. This resulted in a Medicare overpayment of $54,461. The hospital attributed the overpayments to a billing system error. Marian has also agreed to refund the identified overpayment.
