Drugmaker Merck has agreed to pay $24 million to Massachusetts' Medicaid program to resolve allegations that it overbilled for certain drugs, according to a Boston Globe report.
The settlement brings an end to Massachusetts' 2003 lawsuit against 13 drugmakers for price inflation between 1995-2003. Merck appealed a court ruling, delaying its settlement until now. Prior to Merck's settlement, the state had previously recovered $23.4 million from the other 12 companies.
A Merck spokesperson said the settlement is not a reflection of the company's wrongdoing but a decision to put the matter behind it.
