CMS has redesigned Medicare billing statements to make it easier for seniors to spot fraud.
The new format is more consumer-friendly, including larger type and explanations of medical services in simple language. The overhaul forms will be launched Saturday on Medicare's website, www.mymedicare.gov, and paper forms will be phased in early next year.
The new statements also offer up to $1,000 to reward tips that lead investigators to fraud. This bonus isn't new, but it was not mentioned on the previous forms that were sent to roughly 36 million Medicare beneficiaries.
