HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said the upcoming Independent Payment Advisory Board, authorized by the healthcare reform law, would be a better way to cut healthcare spending than the GOP proposal to turn Medicare into a voucher system, according to a report by the Hill.
Speaking before the House Education and Workforce Committee, Ms. Sebelius also said creating better care for dual-eligibles would also be a better way to cut costs than allowing states to cut Medicaid eligibility, as the House Republicans have proposed.
However, the controversial payment board is opposed by Republicans, some Democrats and most provider groups. Opponents argue the board would take authority to set Medicare rates away from Congress.
