All hospitals in Vermont are nonprofit hospitals, 80 percent or more of the hospitals in nine other states are nonprofits, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
The data is for community hospitals and collected by the AHA Annual Survey from the Health Forum, an affiliate of the American Hospital Association.
Here are the top 10 states with the largest percentage of all hospitals in the state being nonprofit:
1. Vermont: 100 percent
2. Maryland: 98 percent
3. Connecticut: 96.9 percent
4. North Dakota: 94.9 percent
5. Maine: 91.2 percent
6. Wisconsin: 91 percent
7. Delaware: 85.7 percent
8. New Hampshire: 85.7 percent
9. New York: 85.5 percent
10. Rhode Island: 81.8 percent
