Hospitals with highest, lowest rates of cardiac imaging before low-risk surgery

Denver, Colo.-based National Jewish Health had the highest rate of outpatient cardiac imaging before low-risk surgery, according to available CMS data.

CMS collects hospital imaging efficiency data to reduce excess Medicare spending and unnecessary exposure to radiation before low-risk outpatient surgical procedures that put little stress on the heart. Lower rates reflect better efficiency.

The latest data from CMS reflects imaging done between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023. The national rate of outpatient cardiac imaging before low-risk surgery during the time period was 3.7.
