2.5M Young Adults Gained Health Coverage Post-Reform

Roughly 2.5 million young adults between the ages of 19 and 25 have gained health insurance coverage since the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act went into effect, according to a news release from the Department of Health and Human Services.

As part of the PPACA, young adults can stay on their parents' health plans until they turn 26. From Sept. 2010 to June 2011, the percentage of those adults aged 19 to 25 with insurance coverage increased from 64 percent to 73 percent.

Earlier figures from this year estimated the PPACA had led to the extension of coverage for 1 million young adults.
