Anecdotally, the healthcare industry has said more of its services are moving from the inpatient to outpatient setting, and more statistics and data are validating that trend.
According to the annual report from the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, Medicare outpatient spending per fee-for-service beneficiary to hospitals rose 9.1 percent from 2010 to 2011, while inpatient spending dipped 1 percent during that same time span.
