Results from a recent study revealed several possible risk factors that could contribute to the development of pressure ulcers, according to research published in AORN Journal.
For their study, researchers assessed 258 patients scheduled for a three-hour surgical procedure over an eight-month period. Bivariate analyses showed the following risk factors were associated with development of pressure ulcers:
• Elevated heels,
• Foam pads on OR bed surfaces
• Skin assessment in the post-anesthesia care unit; and
• Male gender
