The Buffalo (N.Y.) VA Medical Center has rescheduled several surgeries after discovering discoloration on white tray liners in some of their sterilization packages, reports WKBW.
Hospital officials found the discoloration during a routine quality check. Initial tests indicated the instruments in the packages were sterile; however, the VA is conducting additional testing and maintenance to ensure patient safety.
No patients were harmed and surgeries are being rescheduled "out of an abundance of caution" as the VA looks into the situation, according to the report.
Veterans in need of emergency surgery are currently being diverted to other facilities.
