The CDC confirmed 75 new measles cases in the past week, bringing the annual total to 839 infections as of May 10.
Four things to know:
1. Twenty-three states have reported measles cases this year. However, no new states reported cases this week.
2. Seven states are experiencing one or more measles outbreaks: New York, Michigan, New Jersey, California, Georgia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
3. Of the 75 new cases, 65 occurred in New York. The state is experiencing two large measles outbreaks in New York City and Rockland County.
4. The nation's growing case count is nearing the 963 cases reported in 1994 — the highest annual total seen in the last 25 years, reports CNN.
