Mayo Clinic's 5 Recommendations to Improve Care Quality

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic suggests five ways patients and healthcare providers can improve healthcare quality.

Mayo Clinic defines quality as "a comprehensive look at all aspects of a patient's experience, including: excellent care, the best medical knowledge and experience, access to the best technology and staff demonstrating kindness and hope." Here are five strategies Mayo Clinic recommends for healthcare providers and patients to improve quality:

1. Patients should ask physicians to read medical notes after a consult.
2. Providers should use patient apps to improve access.
3. Providers should implement safety tracking systems.
4. Patients should take someone they trust to the hospital or medical appointment with them.
5. Providers should include patient photos in medical records.
