Martha Calihan, MD, chair of the board of directors of Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Va., wrote a letter to the community expressing the hospital's commitment to quality care to the community.
The letter explains the hospital's recent release of the "Compact with the Community" (pdf), a document that formalizes the hospital's dedication to quality, and the release of the hospital's first quality report (pdf).
The agreement is designed to provide accountability for quality care to the community. The document outlines several actions the hospital has taken to improve quality and safety at the hospital, including monitoring performance on quality and safety measures such as patient infections and patient satisfaction.
The quality report is the first in a series of reports Inova Loudoun will issue to the community. The report includes performance on core measures (acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care improvement for adults, and asthma care for children), hospital-acquired conditions, unintended readmissions and patient satisfaction.
