Healthcare Organizations Celebrate National Patient Safety Week

Healthcare organizations across the country are celebrating National Patient Safety Week, which kicked off on Sunday.

Mission Health in Asheville, N.C., has launched a campaign aimed at educating patients about medication safety. The campaign includes methods patients can employ to reduce medication errors, including taking medications only as prescribed and asking questions.

Veteran Affairs Illiana Health Care System, based in Danville, Ill., has also launched an education campaign directed toward both employees and patients, according to a Commercial News report. For patient education efforts, the health system will place medication safety tips on patients' meal trays.

The Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority sponsored a poster campaign giving healthcare providers and patients information on how they can be more engaged with each other. The posters were sent to all hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers in the state. The authority also plans to host informative presentations at various healthcare facilities throughout this week.
