The American Health Lawyers Association and The Human Rights Campaign have partnered together to publish a resource that addresses the new Joint Commission and Medicare standards that require hospitals to explain to all patients their right to choose who may visit them during an inpatient stay.
The rule requires hospitals and critical access hospitals to adopt written policies and procedures regarding visitation and bars them from restricting or limiting visitation rights on any impermissible basis, including sexual orientation and gender identity.
Revisiting Your Hospital’s Visitation Policy will assist hospital counsel and administrators to revise their hospital visitation policies to satisfy the new requirements.
