The CDC estimates that there have been 13.2 million to 15.2 million flu illnesses this season.
Five things to know:
1. The CDC estimates there have been 6.2 million to 7.2 million flu medical visits and 155,000 to 186,000 flu hospitalizations this season.
2. In the week ending Feb. 2, the CDC confirmed 7,080 positive respiratory specimens for influenza A and 125 positive specimens for influenza B, according to the its most recent FluView report.
3. The percentage of outpatient visits for influenzalike illness increased to 4.3 percent for the week ending Feb. 2, above the national baseline of 2.2 percent. All 10 regions reported influenzalike illness at or above their region-specific baseline level.
4. Twenty-four states experienced high influenzalike illness activity for the week ending Feb. 2. Ten states experienced moderate activity; 13 states experienced low activity; and three states experienced minimal activity.
5. Four pediatric flu deaths were reported to the CDC for the week ending Feb. 2, bringing the total number of pediatric flu deaths to 28 for this season. The CDC will provide estimates of adult flu-related deaths when there is enough data.
