Dr. William Drake, St. Joseph's Hospital Sued for Misdiagnosis Allowing Patient's Cancer to Spread

A patient has filed a lawsuit against William Drake, MD, and his employer St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese, Ill., for a misdiagnosis that allowed undetected cancer to spread, according to a St. Clair Record report.

Paul Earnhart removed a lump, which was sent to Dr. Drake for examination. Dr. Drake mistakenly diagnosed the lump as an infected cyst, when it in fact was cancer. The lump returned, and Mr. Earnhart's cancer had spread to his tongue and lymph nodes, according to the report.

Mr. Earnhart was treated for the cancer and is suing Dr. Drake and the hospital for "a blatant misdiagnosis."
